October month’s Photo Critic photography competition is shared between two winners; Peter John Martin with his image "Planted Alley Wall", and Deirdre Botha with her image “Don't like this weather!".
We got to Photo Critic's first Photo of the Year Competition. The winning shot went to Pietman Muller with his image "Klikbek". This was really an outstanding shot; a once in a lifetime moment captured by him. Elsje Wiid, one of the five judges, wrote, "Incomparable moment! There is a great amount of different textures with different focuses in the picture and this creates and interesting effect on the eye with a lot of focused detail, especially on the squirrel. The picture silently whispers an atmosphere of ‘awe.’ Perfect timing of capturing both animals in the right place - the space between the two contributes to the composition. The bug is amazingly frozen in the most perfect spot in the picture plane, with a fast shutter speed – the effect on the wings adds a bit of blur to the picture. Words can’t describe it. People have to view it to believe it" ~ Elsje Wiid.
September month’s Photo Critic photography competition goes to Gustav Brandt for his image “Remembered". You have to read his comments below, to understand what exactly happened when he got this shot.
Elements is a "cut down" version of proper Photoshop. Even though Elements lacks a few features, it does not come with the insane price-tag of Photoshop CS5. Even though it is cheaper (Far Cheaper), Elements still has enough tools and power to satisfy most photographers needs. That is, if you're not running a large commercial studio etc...

It's a new year with new dreams, plans, and strategies. And most of our plans involve two words, "Saving Time". Whether you’re a business person, or a home-maker, your are probably faced with this issue. We all want to save time to improve the quality of our lives. Being a photographer, I have learned that this one phrase, "Saving Time" is probably one of the most important principles in my business. I constantly work on means to improve not only my photography, but also improving my digital workflow. A more efficient workflow, means less time in front of the PC or Mac. Spending less time in front of the computer screen, means more time for myself and ultimately more time to work on my photography techniques and actually "getting out there".
Another great time-lapse photography video. This time with tilt and shift lens to create a miniature marvel about a day in New York. Shot with a Nikon D3 and D80. Brilliantly done!
Eeverybody that knows me, know that I have a thing for stop motion photography and when I have the time, I try my hand, or should I say my camera at it. I was totally blown away by the following stop motion sequence, which was pointed out to me by a friend. Check it out...
During the past few months, we saw two new SLR cameras being launched; the mid-range Canon 60D , and then the entry level Nikon D3100.Those Nikon users among us, should therefore be very delighted that we have been graced with the release of yet another Nikon DSLR. This time it is the Nikon D7000! Unfortunately, it will take some time before I can lay my grubby hands on one (that's to check it out myself), but from what I have read it surely going to rock the boat for some Nikon users who are thinking about upgrading. According to DP Review; it will slot in right between the nimble D90 and the feature-heavy D300S. Here's a few key features, you may be interested in...
Stop motion photography has become very popular over the past few years and we can expect to see more and more fast action Stop Motion Movies and slideshow as camera manufacturers keep on pushing silly frame rates. Both Canon and Nikon have some serious contenders in terms of speed in the form of the Nikon D3X, Canon 1D Mark IV, and even the smaller siblings like the Canon EOS 7D and Nikon D300S. With speeds thar range between 8 to 10 frames a second these cameras are equipped with high-end focusing systems to ensure sharp images, frame for frame.
I found this pretty amazing video, shot with Canon's latest [...]
