Canon EOS 6D Mark II

~ Article by Shawn Marran

After a long wait, Canon has unveiled their new EOS 6D Mark II!

Canon EOS 6D Mark II Body Only

The EOS 6D Mark II is set to be released by the end of July 2017 and features an upgraded 26.2 Megapixel Dual Pixel CMOS sensor over the 20.2 Megapixels of its predecessor. It also boasts a DIGIC-7 Processor, a first for full frame DSLRs.

A highlight is the Mark II’s much-improved AF system, with 45 all-cross-type AF points as opposed to the 11 points of the previous modelHowever, most of them are tightly focused towards the center 🙁

Its ISO will range from 100-40000 (and can be expanded to 50, 51200 and 102400) with a maximum Shutter speed of 1/4000, high-speed continuous shooting up to 6.5 FPS and a flash sync speed of 1/180.

Furthermore, the rear 3″ LCD features have also been upgraded with a Vari-Angle Touchscreen! It sports built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth for file transfers as well as GPS. The Mark II is fully weather resistant with Dust and Water seals.

Two aspects we’re not too happy with:

The lack of a second SD Card slot is another shortcoming that has not been well received, which is probably due to Canon’s strategy to force pro shooters to buy the 5D series. The 6D Mark II, also fall short when it comes to video, as Canon has opted to not add 4K resolution, but instead keep it at Full-HD 1080p. This will be a huge disappointment for cinematographers who has been shooting with the original 6D and were waiting to upgrade to the Mark II.

The 6D Mark II will set you back roughly $1,999 Body Only, while adding the 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM will push it up to $2,599 or the 24-105mm f/4L IS for $3,099

We hope to get our hands on the 6D Mark II, to give you a proper review sooner rather than later, but for more info on the 6D Mark II, check out the following links:
