We are celebrating another year of outstanding photography by our students that were featured on our sister website, Photo Critic. Now we can finally put your nerves to rest by announcing the coveted Photo Critic Photographer of the Year and Photo of the Year winners!

Without further delay here are our winners for 2016!

Photo Critic Photo of the Year | People Category Winner

Leon Pelser!

Leon Pelser. Story of my life | Photo of the Year 2016, People Category

Photo Description: Leon is a medical doctor in Kriel, Mpumalanga. “Story of my Life” is an intelligent storytelling portrait, of one of his patients, who suffered from brain cancer. Leon’s portrait depicts the heart-breaking reality of a patient who lost all her hair due to the dreaded chemotherapy. At the same time, his patient’s witty gesture and facial expression shows courage and hope. Sadly, since the taking of this portrait, she has passed away.

Photo Critic Photographer of the Year and General Category Winner

Nadia de Lange!

Nadia de Lange. A man and his dog

Photo Description: In Nadia’s own words… “Another attempt at something more creative. I wanted to create a painting, with the emphasis on how small my husband and especially my dog are in comparison to the massive trees around them. I wanted the viewer to really move their eyes up and down the photo, finally resting on the man and his dog”
